Scientific research is an important part of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). In fact, research is mentioned several times in ABOS’s strategic plan. While ABOS does not directly conduct research, it partners with researchers and organizations in two ways. Click on the links to learn more.
- Researchers regularly request Case List data for their projects. The Research Committee reviews requests twice a year. A list of approved research projects and their resulting papers (if published) are updated regularly. Approved recipients are required to pay $3,800 to cover IT and data management expenses.
- For the past several years, ABOS has partnered with the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Visiting Scholars program to fund young orthopaedic surgeons who are studying topics related to Board Certification and Maintenance of Certification.
