Examination Registration

To take an American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) Computer-Based Recertification Examination or Oral Examination, you must log in to your ABOS Dashboard and register for the Examination, during the Registration Window, following the steps below. As a reminder, you still must complete all parts of the ABOS Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program, not just the knowledge Assessment portion.

ABOS Computer-Based Recertification Examination (Available January 6-October 12)
Available to Diplomates in years 5-10 of their MOC Cycle. In order to take the Examination in Year 10, you must have submitted a Professional Standing Update and Case List by December 1 of Year 9.

  1. Scroll down to the Part 3 section and click on “Computer Exam Page.”
  2. Click the link to register. On the screen you will see the Examinations that are available to you that year. Select the Examination you would like to take and hit “submit.”
  3. Click on “Click here to Pay Exam Fee” and pay your Examination Fee with a credit card.
  4. Beginning April 28, you will see a link that says, “Schedule Your Exam.” Click on that link and it will take you to Pearson VUE’s website. Follow the directions carefully to schedule your Examination. Be sure to click “Submit Order” to finalize your scheduling.

After you schedule your Examination, please print or save the page for your records. Call Pearson VUE directly if you do not receive a confirmation email.

ABOS Oral Recertification Examination (Available January 6-January 31)
Available to Diplomates in years 8-10 of their MOC Cycle. In order to take the ABOS Oral Recertification Examination, you must submit your Professional Standing Update and Case List the year prior to the Examination.

  1. Scroll down to the Part 3 section and click on “Oral Exam Page.”
  2. Click the link to register. On the screen you will see the Examination(s) that are available to you. Select the Examination you would like to take and hit “submit.”

You will receive information in April about your 12 selected cases and how to pay the Examination Fee.
